Keeping everyone awake!

Relay for Life - Anne, Amir and Ben

At 2pm on Sunday 25 March the Five Senses Coffee barista team made their final take-away coffee for the Cancer Foundation’s Relay for Life event held at Perry Lakes sporting complex.

Five Senses was approached by the Cancer Foundation asking for assistance to keep all of their competitors in the seventh annual Relay for Life event, awake and energised, to complete the 24 hour block of continuous running and walking around the 400 metre track.

“Coffee! Come and get your cappuccino’s, flat white’s, long mac’s and iced coffee’s here,” shouted a bright young man with a big smile and a desire to make it all happen at the Five Senses stand.

‘Hear ye! hear ye! Ladies and gentleman, come and get your cappuccino’s here. We can’t turn water into wine but we will turn water into coffee!’ The young man shouted once more.

Ben, Amir, Belinda, Ann and Emmy championed the event with their barista skills and were among the many who volunteered in this wholesome fundraiser that supports the many people who have suffered with cancer, that have lost a dear one and honours the lives of those who have since passed.

The event began on Saturday 24 March at 3pm and ended on 25 March Sunday at 2pm. With a stationary hour, some time after midnight for the completion of daylight saving, it was a hot 24 hours for the many relay teams that composed of friends and family members who must keep the baton going all through the night. And whilst many walked it, others chose to run it. Oh yes, run it! And to keep these athletes going, the food and drink supplies were in high demand.

“Everyone helped everyone achieve their goals. It is a wonderful experience to be part of this world event,” said Emmy, one of the Five Senses baristas. “The community support in Perth was beyond expectations, something to beat next year. So, start getting your team together.”
