'Super' places third in Singapore

Andrew 'Super' Tang places third in the 2007 Singapore Barista Championships

Andrew Tang, or ‘Super’ as we like to call him, gets third place in the inaugural 2007 Singapore Barista Championships held on 29 – 31 March at the Suntec City Convention.

22 year old, Eleen Cai, won the event in a virtuoso display impressing the judges with a combination of poise, confidence and superior coffee preparation skills. Eleen took home a prize purse of SGD$1,000 and will represent Singapore in the World Barista Championships in Tokyo on 31 July.

Armed with Five Senses coffee, Super jumped on a plane after a few days of solid practice on the La Marzocco GB5 at the WA Barista Academy. His thorough understanding of coffee took him a long way, even though he had minimal commercial barista experience.

Super acknowledged he was only going in the event for a bit of fun and was very surprised to place, but we at Five Senses always thought he’d have a chance after tasting his sensational signature drink made with avocado, honey and lime zest.
