Wife latte art champion announced

Ashley presents Erin with her prize as the winner of the ‘World’s Best Latte Art Champion Married to a Five Senses Staff Member’ competition

The desire of wives to learn the finer art of the barista movement culminated in an all-wives class at the Western Australian Barista Academy on Sunday 1 July, where the ‘World’s Best Latte Art Champion Married to a Five Senses Staff Member’ was also announced.

Much to our surprise the Five Senses roastery was flooded with emails and phone calls about the competition (see previous article) and it was Erin (wife of new Operations Manager, Brad Butler) who took out top honours with her aptly named ‘storm in a tea cup’.

Possibly the only competitor with no actual latte art in her cup, Erin polled 251 votes out of the 458 votes cast, which equated to a massive 54.8 per cent. The popularity contest (… sorry, I mean latte-art competition) created quite a flurry of rivalry amongst the competitors. Some stooped to any level to win, such as pleading for votes from everyone in their email address book, and in one case a competitor (who shall remain nameless) asked her young, defenseless brother to vote for her from every computer at the University of Western Australia computer lab where he studies.

The final results were as follows:

1 – Crystal: 23 votes / 4th place / 5.0% of the votes
2 – Tara: 80 votes / 3rd place / 17.5% of the votes
3 – Charlene: 91 votes / 2nd place / 19.9% of the votes
4 – Vicky: 2 votes / 7th place / 0.4% of the votes
5 – Erin: 251 votes / 1st place / 54.8% of the votes
6 – Stacey: 7 votes / 5th place / 1.5% of the votes
7 – Carol: 4 votes / 6th place / 0.9% of the votes

Erin was duly presented with an amazing prize — a weekend’s exclusive use of the Five Senses 1988 Daihatsu Charade. Yes, Erin will be able to take the luxurious Daihatsu Charade anywhere her heart desires, and has already mentioned a potential trip down south … nothing could be more exhilarating than driving such a sleek-looking sports car with the windows down, the wind blowing through her hair, and not a care in the world! Erin also received a gift voucher to Divido Restaurant in Mt Hawthorn, and is looking forward to traveling there during her prize-winning Charade weekend.

With the additional skills acquired from her recent experience, Erin has offered her services to the Western Australian Barista Academy… she may well appear as a special guest for one of their regular Latte Art courses.
