WA Barista Champ takes on Melbourne

Melbourne, the home of coffee in Australia, is about to get a serious wake-up call …
The 2007 WA Barista Champion, Nolan Hirte, is entering a new chapter in his stella barista and coffee career as he endeavours to open a new café in Hawthorn.
For the past ten years, Nolan has been visualising a café where his two loves can come together — coffee and vinyl. Bringing his collection of rare (and odd!) vinyl records as a permanent feature to the café, we can only hope he will step behind the mixing desk as well as the coffee machine to brew up some fantastic beats.
Still nameless, the café will be located on the corner of Kingkora and Glenferrie and sits amid a chic shopping district. This densely populated area, with universities and commercial offices, is itching for quality and consistent coffee, and will surely embrace the uniquely individual style and atmosphere that only the famous Nolan can create.
With the collective brilliance of Nathan (interior designer and owner of thriving café, APTE) and Diamond (the jewel of the team), the café will be equipped with elite machinery … a three group Synesso Cyncra, pimped out with customised accessories hand-crafted by Reg Barber himself, and only the third Clover machine in Australia. Customers will have the choice of espresso, plunger or clover coffee (tipped to be served in fine wine glasses for the ultimate coffee experience). Taking on the big boys of the Melbourne coffee scene, this trio will quite possibly offer the largest range of direct to cup single origins in Australia , uniquely roasted by Five Senses Coffee for each specific method of brewing.
Aside from the exceptional coffee experience, there will be all day breakfasts, homestyle lunches, and freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. The amazing selection of homemade cakes, muffins and treats can be attributed to the greek heritage of Diamond’s mum.
So, with much anticipation, watch this space for an official opening date in the next couple of weeks …
