A big day for the Captain
During October, we celebrated a rather special day for Captain Deano. He might not want too many details made public, but if we tell you that it involved party hats, a cake and plenty of candles, you can probably figure it out. Throw in a reference to ‘the age of wisdom’, and no doubt you’ve got the idea.

Here at the roastery, we take advantage of any excuse to indulge in a bit of tomfoolery. Unbeknownst to Dean, the rest of us decided this was the perfect opportunity to come in dressed to the nines. We don’t usually dress very formally, because we’re so hard at it that we usually work up a sweat and go home a bit grubby. So we had to fish right to the back of our wardrobes to find our best suits to don for the occasion. Actually, some of us didn’t have anything suitable at all (an irresistibly bad pun!) and had to dash out to the local Good Sammy store to find something.
Littles, one of our roasters, went with his own personal interpretation of ‘suit’ and rocked up in his wetsuit, completing the look by covering his face with zinc. Now that’s the kind of dedication we admire here at 5 Senses! Fortunately he didn’t bring the accompanying fins, because there would definitely have been some health and safety issues if he’d operated the Renegade in those.
The day went off with a bang — literally. Dean arrived to an explosion of party poppers and party horns, the noise and colour a little at odds with our corporate attire. Some people get a little morose on reaching one of those ‘milestone’ birthdays, but not our Dean. He was beaming from the moment he arrived and heartily enjoyed our pretty average rendition of Happy Birthday, the delectable homemade birthday cake (thanks Emma) and a day of congratulations and celebration. We’re all looking forward to seeing what wisdom and maturity Dean will impart, now that he’s reached the all important four-oh. Ohhh… did I mention the number? Oops! Congratulations, Dean.
