If you have a love-hate relationship with your snooze button, you’ll think newly opened espresso bar txtSHOTS, in North Perth, is heaven sent. Kitted out with an iMac ordering system, you can text or email your coffee order so that it’s ready and waiting when you arrive.

Owner Nick Johnson notched up plenty of experience at Cafe Vinyl, learning the tricks of the trade from veteran Aaron Pyne, before joining forces with business partner, Annie Rankin, to open txtSHOTS.

While their pre-ordering system makes life easy for customers chasing a quick takeaway, they’ve also catered to those who like to linger over their brew. There’s plenty of print media, and even two iPads to play with.

Business customers are looked after too, with a long meeting bench that comfortably accommodates eight people and which has a display screen for presentations and plenty of power points for laptops.

After lots of cupping and experimenting with blends, they decided to go with the blend used by reigning WA Barista Champion, Mark Chandler, in his winning performance. Containing Ethiopian — Yirgacheffe and Indonesian — Sumantran Lintong beans, it works brilliantly both through milk and black. The Sumatran comes through strongly with milk, with a beautiful dry herb and roasted almond flavour, while as black, the Yirgacheffe dominates, giving a buttery mouthfeel and strong aroma. They certainly do their blend justice, pulling awesome shots on their gorgeous raspberry Expobar Ruggero Americana. They also feature a changing rotation of Single Origins through their second grinder.

The food offerings at txtSHOTS are quality, with some delicious paninis (we like the lamb bamb, with roast lamb, labna, onion jam, tomato and rocket), sandwiches, muffins and scrumptious cupcakes. txtSHOTS have a busy catering sideline, providing coffees, morning teas and lunches to plenty of local (and not so local) business. Their online catering website makes ordering easy, and there’s an enormous range to choose from. They’ll even deliver orders over $50.00.

The team at txtSHOTS are keen to impress. They’re super friendly, and work hard to make sure that your coffee is just right. And while that’s more than enough to entice you through their doors, they also donate a chunk of their profits to respected charities, including World Vision. Yet another reason to drop in and grab some ‘fuel’ for your day!
