Fez Offers Cultural Pizazz

Known as one of Morocco’s four “imperial cities,” Fez is said to be the cultural capital of Africa’s most north eastern coastal country. Only a few short kilometres away in Mt. Lawley, WA, Fez cafe offers its patrons a delicate balance of land far away meets soulful corner cafe.
Owners Abdul and Loubna Belhassan, originally from Morocco, chose the name in admiration for the city that they feel most accurately represents the art and cuisine that embodies their homeland. With the help of Australian photographer, Moe Louanjli, they have decorated cafe walls with larger-than-life photos that personify Fez (the city). Opposing walls are glass from ceiling to floor and double as doors and windows, this day cracked open to let in the gentle morning breeze.
The menu looks amazing and contains everything that you’re used to seeing, only this time coupled with a little Moroccan pizzaz. For example, pancakes take an exotic twist as they are served with cinnamon, mascarpone, berry compote and maple. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, try the Berber Traditional Breakfast: meatballs in rich tomato sauce, cracked eggs on top and served with grilled bread. Lunch is the same story with one flavourful, mouth-watering description after another. The Fez Signature is lamb brochette with salad or bean, capsicum, almond, mint yoghurt and harissa, a spicy North African sauce made from chilli peppers, garlic, cumin, and other seasonings. Dinner will be served starting the first of November and is BYO.
And speaking of beverages, the coffee served at Fez is just as warm and pleasurable as a conversation with the owner himself. Nuanced and packed with flavor, the Fez blend is complex, fresh and compelling. It has a backbone of solid, earthy body, anchored with high notes of flowers and lemongrass.
Fez is visually pleasing with a peaceful ambience. For an encapsulating Moroccan experience this side of the Indian Ocean, check out Fez. As the sign boldly declares, it is indeed “sweet as.”
