Dissecting the Blend — Crompton Rd

Designed to be a crowd pleaser, Crompton Rd is a blend of two solid estate coffees with a touch of our direct trade Balinese magic. The profile is notably heavy bodied and leaves a lingering aftertaste of cocoa, nut and dry spice.
The most dominant coffee in this blend comes from the Santo Antonio estates. These are a collection of well-known and organised estates in Sul de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It provides the consistent base notes for the blend and is responsible for the heavy mouth-coating character, distinct cocoa and hints of sweet nut.
The second estate comes from our newest relationship, Veer Attikan, located in the Biligiri Rangan Hills, south of Mysore in India. The estate is located on a wildlife sanctuary where animals like elephants, bears, bison, sambhur and, occasionally, tigers are spotted. This stunning estate is managed with precision and attention to detail. It has produced the best coffee we’ve tasted out of India yet, and complements Crompton Rd with added body and mouth feel. Most notably, it adds extra spice and intensity of flavour.
Finally, our Balinese direct trade coffee is the hidden gem in this blend. We have had the pleasure of developing relationships with two Subak Abians (farmer groups) in neighbouring Bali over the last four years. We’ve worked very closely with Ulian Murni and Kerta Waringin on a common goal of raising Balinese coffee up to its true potential. Also heavy in nature, this coffee adds some dry spice, gentle licks of acidity and a caramel sweetness through milk.
All in all, Crompton Rd is a heavy bodied coffee with a buttery mouthfeel and distinct notes of cocoa, molasses and caramel. It has a delicate acidity with a lingering aftertaste of sweet nut, ginger and spice. Because of its high body and lower acidity, it’s great through milk and also good for espresso drinkers who like a thick and viscous short black.
