The French experience at Le Triskel
If you’re a bit of a Francophile, Le Triskel will be right up your alley. They serve their café au lait French style, in “le bol” (that’s a bowl, for us Aussies), all of the waiters are French, and yes, even the menu is in French. Few people can resist a French accent, and we suspect that plenty of people return to Le Triskel just to hear the waiters’ lilting speech.

Caleb crowned Victorian Barista Champion
Caleb Podhaczky put in a polished performance to take out the title of Victorian Barista Championship. His win came as no surprise to the Five Senses team, who have long recognised Caleb’s talent. Caleb is Five Senses’ point man for roasting in Victoria. Runner up was Kris Wood, with Talor Browne taking out bronze.

Roll back the clock to 2006 and Nolan Hirte was running a successful café and had won the WA Barista Championship. He had made a big impression at the national barista finals in Adelaide and any café he was involved with in Perth seemed assured of success. The logical thing would have been to open his own café and watch the money roll in.

A spacious section of the old Denton Mills Hat Factory, established in Abbotsford in 1888, is the newest site for Nathan, Sarah, Diamond and Ben’s cafe — Three Bags Full.

Walking through the door of Penny Farthing is like stepping back in time: rustic salvaged furniture, a turntable playing all the best hits from yesteryear, and of course, the brothers in arms behind the Synesso Hydra, Trevor and Steve.
Taking the name Penny Farthing from a late great uncle who raced penny farthing bicycles in England, both Steve and Trevor, with their suspenders, side burns and a handle bar moustache, would look at home on the high perched seat of one of the big wheeled bicycles.
