Village Friendly Ristretto Cups

The cup itself has been designed for the very serious ristretto drinker.

Designed by Dean and manufactured in Malawi, they have a large dense ceramic base for heat retention. They also stand tall, bringing the cup closer to the portafilter spout, thereby reducing the height of the fall of the shot into the cup meaning that the shot hits the cup hotter and less aerated. The handle has a design that accomodates both a pinch and a hook and has a finer lip for a much more enjoyable drinking experience.

Most importantly, every cup is made by hand — each a little bit different, by a villager in Nkotakota, Malawi. Best of all, a tiny bit of our western wealth has been redistributed to people who need it more. In addition to the manufacture cost we will be donating $5 per set sold — back to Malawi through either our existing support mechanisms (like child sponsorship) or through other agencies that focus on broader community based health and education programs. We’ll keep you posted.

Buying a village friendly cup will be just another small way of helping us balance the ledger between those of us who have and those of us who haven’t.
