Lajos Varga is the co-owner of the newest kid on the block, Ooh Coffee. Located on Queen Victoria Street, North Fremantle, this building was once a source of pain for me. On multiple occasions, my partner Finchy dragged me in to the store to spend hours looking at wallpaper, only to leave empty handed.
Not only has Lajos put an end to my pain, he’s healing old wounds with a tidy little espresso bar. Lajos is also a photographer.
To say his immaculate attention to detail has translated to his espresso-slinging game is an understatement.
Dark Horse and rotating singles are meticulously dialled in, weighed and pushed through a Gen2 Synesso Hydra. The results are stunning! Lajos also takes great pride in his filter program and it’s ready for your enjoyment. That is, if he doesn’t drink it all before you get there.
The food’s awesome too. Quirky Bird Kitchen supplies all the cakes, blondies and banana/coconut bread. If you need a quick snap-and-go, their double cheese, prosciutto, Dijon and pickle toasty is on-point. Bread in Common provide the loaves and the fridge is resplendent with Pressed Earth juices. What’s not to love?
Nowadays, I’ll happily come by with Finchy. She can spend a bit of time in Ooh La La (the attached clothing boutique owned by Lajos’ partner, Jess Quartermaine) and I’ll geek-out over the Synesso with Lajos. I call that a win-win.
