The fine people of Five Senses Coffee.

When Five Senses started out, we were committed to building a business that we had fun working at. Turns out, succeeding at that is all about surrounding yourself with amazing people. Over the years, the Five Senses team has grown to a lively, warm group of people, all of whom show incredible care for not only their work but also their colleagues and all those we work with at origin and in cafes. In addition to being a swell bunch of individuals, they’ve got some serious coffee chops behind them – from cafe owners to baristas, world coffee championship judges to Q graders a-plenty, their collective expertise is a rich resource they’re always keen to share.
We’re incredibly proud of our crew – they’re what make this journey so much fun.

Dean Gallagher

Founder & Owner
With enough energy to power a semi-conductor, drinking coffee is probably overkill for Dean. Force of nature entrepreneur, he loves big steak Fridays, an aged red wine and turning everyone up to 11. Willfully stuck on old school ristrettos.

Jason Gray

Chief Executive Officer
Captain of our ship, Jason has been with Five Senses for over 10 years. Originally from a finance background, he now has equal parts coffee and numbers running through his veins. His latte art swans are still a disgrace but no one has the heart to tell him. He goes to more music gigs than all of us combined, bleeds Dockers purple, and talks a lot of trash on the ping pong table.

Brad Butler

Chief Operations Officer
We all know teachers have organisational super powers and are fueled by coffee. Heading up all things operations, Brad is a former teacher who inspires others to be great. When he’s not recovering from a sporting injury, you can find him gathered around the coffee machine talkin’ extraction yields and fantasy sports.

Caleb Sexton

Chief Information Officer
With his Five Senses roots dating all the way back to 2006 as a WA delivery driver, Caleb can definitely back up the claim that he knows his way around at Five Senses.

Chantelle Mueller

Chief Financial Officer
Leaving Merredin for the big smoke of Perth to study accounting, Chantelle has found herself as a literal bean-counter. Whatever you do, don’t screw around with her spreadsheets, but she can be bribed with offerings of gin and cheese.

Matt Slater

Director of Coffee/Management Consultant
Infused with the collaborative, indie spirit of the punk DIY movement, this Yorkshire lad drives the coffee program at Five Senses. Q Grader and ex-International Director of Re:Co Symposium, Matt’s coffee network sprawls across continents. A believer in the power of beer, drums and the human spirit, if Matt’s not out actively building community, it must be a rare time when he’s asleep.

Richard Muhl

Technical Services Manager
After working in Calibration Labs for the Navy and Air Force, the world of specialty coffee showed Richard what complex really looks like. He's a master of all things technical and a shining light of quantification, logic and process. Combine this with his love of coffee and he is the Liam Neeson of our industry ... he has a particular set of skills.

Gavan Hogan

Human Resources Manager
Known internally as the Silver Fox, Gav first discovered specialty coffee while working in the highlands of PNG last century. Gav is the ultimate people person and heads up all things HR. He’s a proud dad and granddad and passionate about seeing people flourish in their role at Five Senses.

Jeremy Hulsdunk

Chief Commercial Officer
Besides being a walking encyclopedia on coffee, Jeremy is also a certifed Q Grader, two time WA Barista Champ, WA Latte Champ and WA Cupping Champ! With so many accolades nestled in his pool room, you'd think they were his best feature, but no! It's his witty charm and love for pink and grey galahs.

Ashley Brian

Marketing Manager
Ash lives the basketball life both on court and off. You will often see him zipping around Northbridge on a Vespa, sporting a different pair of Jordans every single time. A man of the people, Ash heads up marketing and all things home and office coffee. If the modded SynessoMac on his kitchen bench is anything to go by, he takes home tech very seriously.

Damien Steponavicius

National Roasting Manager
Damo has been putting his Bachelor of arts, advanced diploma in screenwriting and post grad in literature to good use roasting coffee for the past 8 years! No only can he discuss all things roasting with you, he’ll do it with perfect grammar and vivid analogies. He might seem a little shy, but just bring up Europe, specifically the little Swiss town of Lauterbrunnen, and watch him gush!

Brett Millar

National Production Manager
A previous award winning restauranteur, Brett heads up National Production with his positive and infectious energy. Based at our VIC roastery since 2007, you're in for a great chat and a lending hand from everyones 'Go 2 Guy'.

Matthew McLauchlan

Business Development Manager

From the vibrant alleys of Shanghai and the bustling streets of Manila, Matt has soaked up the best of Asia and has brought it all back to his cozy home in Launceston, Tasmania. Originally from New Zealand, you can find him whipping up some culinary delights in the kitchen, strumming the strings of his guitar, discovering new wines and raising the next generation of All Black fans!
