Aahhhh. Holiday season — I feel a collective sigh of relief from you all. For many, this means down time, relaxing and recuperating from the year that was. For others, this might mean catching up with friends and family. This year, I’ll be sitting inside a tin can in the air for over 20 hours. I’m lucky that my family are pretty great. They’re nearly worth it.

After being voted the equal worst airport in Australia, we all welcomed the news that the Western Australian government will be spending $700m to relaunch Perth’s International Airport, the place which connects the world’s second most remote city to the rest of the world.

This whole renewal initiative saw the birth of arguably the first genuinely quality-focused food and coffee venue at the airport — enter 6000 Acres. Their aim is clear; to provide fresh, quality local produce to customers without too much indulgence in the famous “airport tax”. And let me tell you, they’re hitting the mark.

The coffee program is incredibly strong. With their proud 3-group Synesso Hydra, which is fully featured with pressure profiling and incredible temperature stability even during the busiest of times, plus two Robur E-grinders, whether you’re ordering a deliciously sweet and creamy Crompton Road or a Colombian Primaveral decaf, you know your coffee is going to be quick, delicious and consistently great.

If the Australian summer gets the better of you, you’ll be pleased to know that they’re also offering cold brew coffee made either in the Toddy or their cold drip tower. They’re certainly not short of a few coffee toys at 6000 Acres — and it shows in the quality of the offerings! Pre-bottling fresh cold brew on site adds a touch of finesse and helps them churn through the crowd with ease.

If you need something stiffer, I’m not one to judge. With coldies from Matsos Brewery and Little Creatures Brew House on offer, you’re well catered for. For small casual bites, there’s a great selection of slices and pastries to choose from and they’re all delivered fresh each day from The Cookie Barrel — another Western Australian company. For something more substantial, the Harvey Beef Angus Burger happily hit the spot! Notice a trend here? If you’re leaving the country, 6000 Acres certainly send you off with some of the greatest WA-made ingredients!

So international travel is no longer all bad news! Get to the airport early, check in and have fun relaxing at 6000 Acres. They’ve gone to great lengths to make sure you’re in a good place before you subject yourself to a confined space with 160 strangers. And for that, I couldn’t be more thankful!
