Scarf Community

Hospitality upskilling + helping young people get a leg up? Sign us up, we said!

Scarf is a Melbourne based, not-for-profit who for over 10 years have been helping provide young people from refugee or migrant backgrounds valuable skills to jump into the vibrant hospitality scene. No matter what your situation, breaking into a new job market with little previous experience can be difficult. Scarf aims to bridge that gap for its trainees with a variety of programs acting as a launchpad for skills, confidence and community. In collaboration with some of the most respected restaurant, bar and café professionals around Melbourne, trainees are offered real world experience with amazing mentors by their side: they’re paid, valued and become part of a supportive learning community. To date, Scarf has worked with over 230 trainees, provided thousands of dollars of paid work experience and provided close to 15,000 hours of personalised hands-on training!

Five Senses + Scarf

FIVE SENSES BARISTA ACADEMY

We’ve been proud to support Scarf’s efforts with customised training programs at our Melbourne Barista Academy, helping build skills and confidence around the tools and techniques for delicious coffee. The buzz of energy when the Academy is full of Scarf trainees is always so much fun and we feel lucky to be helping this driven, talented young crew jump into the hospo world.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

There’s a number of ways you can support Scarf’s great work. If you’re in Melbourne, definitely keep your eyes open for their pop-up dinners where trainees run the front of house at some of Melbourne’s tastiest dining options. In the meantime, you can score some of their sweet merch or donate towards their efforts directly.
